About Us

Vision

We believe our students can overcome generational poverty and transform their communities and personal lives.

Mission

To provide a secondary education for indigenous Ecuadorian youth to increase economic and social equality.

History

Saminay – El Legado (The Birthright) was the dream of a dedicated visionary, Mary Eckert, who with  David and Elaine Putnam created a school where the youth of this area could receive an education to improve their lives and employment opportunities.

Through a collaboration with like minded visionaries Saminay – El Legado has become a reality.

Humble Beginnings
A 77 acre piece of property was purchased in 2007. Construction of the school began and was officially opened for 40 students on May 15, 2009. Currently our enrollment as grown to 100 students.
Building the Farm
The development of a working farm on the property serves as a learning laboratory for students, food for the kitchen as well as entrepreneurial opportunities for the school.
Partners
Through collaborative efforts between the Ecuadorian government and generous donors our dream of a vibrant educational school has been realized.
Volunteers
Hardworking volunteers have come to Saminay and built much needed infrastructure and new buildings.
